A meeting was had at the Library Room. The subject first presented for consideration was the
proposed new Catalogue.
Mr. Peiree presented to the Board specimens of the Cards which had been procured with the
approved form of inscription.
On motion of Mr. Tuck.
Resolved To appropriate for the making out of the Card Catalogue a sum equal to one dollar
for each one hundred cards. It is understood that the whole Title page of the Book shall be literally
& accurately written according to the prescribed form that is that each card shall as far as possible
be an exact transcription in full of the Title page of the book which it represents.
Mr. Leach of the Prudential Committee reported that Mr. Frederic Leach having been unexpectedly
called away from Town on the first of July the committee had procured the services of Mr. Torrey
who had performed the duties of Librarian since that time.
On motion of Mr. Peirce
Resolved That in consideration of the extra labor performed by Mr. Frederic Leach during his
connection with the Library he be paid twelve & a half dollars extra.
It was then Resolved..
That Mr. Torrey be appointed our Librarian for the term of one year from July 1st 1859.
That Mr. Tuck be authorized to confer with Mr. Torrey and employ him in making out the card
catalogue according to the plan and terms decided upon.
Mr. Tuck announced the presentation of Two volumes of books belonging to the Library of
the late Hon. Robert Rantoul, Jr. the gift of his son R. S. Rantoul, Esq.
It was thereupon Resolved that the thanks of the Board be presented to Mr. Rantoul for the
gift and that the Librarian be instructed to make known this action to Mr. Rantoul. Voted
That the volumes of Encyclopedia Britannica shall not be taken out of the Library Room
except by an order fxom one of the Trustees.
The President having been called out of the Room at about the middle of the session, Mr.
Dodge was appointed Chairman.

To adjourn to the first Wednesday evening in September.
