1859-02-16 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 02/16/1859 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Joseph G. Dodge, Franklin Leach, Benjamin O. Peirce, and Joseph D. Tuck Board members absent: Charles Haddock Others present: Recorder: Benjamin O. Peirce February 16th The Board met according to adjournment. Present Messrs. Leach, Tuck, Dodge & Peirce. Mr. Leach in the chair. Mr. Tuck from the Committee on Regulations made Report that that committee considered it advisable that a new partition should be built across the Room in such a way as to prevent more than one individual from approaching the Librarian at any one time. That no person should have access to the Library except through the librarian himself. As a member of the committee on revision of catalogues Mr. Tuck also reported that the committee recommend that a new catalogue be prepared on cards, that cards to be sufficient size to contain the full Title of the books, name of the Author, Publisher and place of publication. The further arrangement of the catalogue for the press to be decided upon aRer the card catalogue has been completed. The Reports of the Committee were accepted so far as related to the catalogue. That part of the Report appenaining to proposed alterations of the Library Room was recommitted for more specific and detailed presentation. Mr. Peirce was authorized to procure cards for the proposed catalogue. Mr. Tuck with Rev. Joseph Abbott & Dr. W. Thorndike were appointed to examine and report on the condition of the Books preparatory to the presentation of the Annual Report to the Town. Mr. Peirce was requested to notify Mr. Hill that the Librarian's Report would be required at the next meeting of the board & also to ask him to be present at that meeting. Adjourned to the 23d inst.
