1857-04-15 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 04/15/1857 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Charles Haddock, Joseph G. Dodge, Benjamin O. Peirce, Joseph D. Tuck, and Richard P. Waters Board members absent: Others present: Recorder: Benjamin O. Peirce Wednesday Evening April 15th 1857 The Board met in the Library Room. In the interval elapsed since the last meeting of the board it had become known that Mr. Endicott had resigned his office as Trustee. This resignation was informally brought in the notice of the citizens at their adjourned meeting & the vacancy thus occurring was filled by the appointment of Mr. Joseph D. Tuck. Present at the opening of the meeting Messrs. Waters, Dodge, Tuck & Peirce. The chairman, Mr. Haddock, was prevented from attendance until somewhat late & Mr. Waters acted as Chairman pro tempore. Mr. Peirce presented for consideration to the Board the necessity of making provision for rearrangement of the books etc. in anticipation of the time when the number of additions should make it necessary to issue a new catalogue. This subject was postponed for a special discussion at a future meeting. Mr. Haddock formally announced the resignation of Mr. Win. Endicott, Jr. of his office as Trustee & on his motion it was Resolved That Mr. Waters be appointed to draw up a communication expressive of the regret felt by his former associates at the loss of his companionship in this service, their high appreciation of his labors & their kindly regards and that this be presented to the Board at their next meeting. On motion of Mr. Haddock Resolved That Mr. Dodge be appointed to supply the place of Mr. Endicott on the committee for purchase of books. On motion of Mr. Peirce Resolved That Messrs. Haddock & Tuck be a committee to attend to the binding of books. Resolved That the meetings of this board shall be regularly held on the first Wednesday evening of each month. Adjourned to meet on the first Wednesday in May at 7 1/2 o'clock.
