1857-03-14 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 03/14/1857 Place: Town Clerk's Office Board members present: Charles Haddock, Joseph G. Dodge, William Endicott, Jr., and Benjamin O. Peirce Board members absent: Richard P. Waters Others present: James B. Hill, Librarian Recorder: Benjamin O. Peirce Saturday evening March 14th 1857 A meeting was called for the purpose of organizing the Board & transactions of business preparatory to the reopening of the Library. Met in the Town Clerk's Room. Present Messrs. Charles Haddock, Joseph G. Dodge, appointed by the Town to fill the unexpired term of Mr. C. W. Galloupe, Mr. Win. Endicott, Jr. appointed for a new term of five years & B. O. Peirce, with the Librarian. On motion of Mr. Peirce. Win. Endicott was appointed chairman of the meeting. On motion of C. Haddock Resolved to proceed to the choice of officers for the ensuing year. Charles Haddock was chosen Chairman of the Board receiving three ballots. B. O. Peirce was chosen Secretary of the board receiving three ballots On motion of Mr. Peirce Robert G. Bennett, Esq. was appointed Treasurer for the ensuing year. On motion of Resolved that B. O. Peirce be requested to act as financial Secretary. On motion of C. Haddock B. O. Peirce 86 Wm Endicott, Jr. were appointed a committee of the purchase of books. On motion of Mr. James Hill was unanimously chosen Librarian. Resolved That One hundred fifty dollars be appropriated as salary of Lihrarian for the current year. On motion of C. Haddock Resolved That the thanks of the Board of Trustees of the Beverly Public Library be presented to Mr. James Hill for the valuable services gratuitously rendered by him to the Library during the past year. On motion of Mr. Peirce Resolved That the thanks of the Board are due to Henry Endicott, James A. Hill, George B. Lamb, Francis Lamb and Joseph Torrey for the great assistance which they have given the Librarian during the past year. On motion Resolved That the Library be reopened to the citizens on Saturday afternoon & evening next at the usual time. Voted to adjourn to meeting on Saturday evening next at 7 ¼ o'clock.
