1856-09-13 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 09/13/1856 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: William Endicott, Jr., Charles Haddock, and Benjamin O. Peirce Board members absent: Richard P. Waters Others present: Recorder: Benjamin O. Peirce Saturday Evening Sept. 13th 1856 A meeting of the Trustees was held at the Library Room Messrs. Endicott, Haddock and Peirce being present. Mr. Endicott was appointed chairman. The resignation of Librarian tendered by Charles Davis was accepted and Mr. James Hill was chosen to succeed him. Mr. Haddock made report of his proceedings as acting Librarian which was unanimously accepted. Mr. Haddock was authorized to distribute the printed cataloSues in such way as he may think best the price of such as may be sold being fixed at twenty five cents. On motion of Mr. Peirce It was resolved that the Library be opened to the public for the delivery of books on Saturday next the twentieth instant. Mr Peirce was authorized & requested to subscribe for the principal literary & religious reviews & such other periodicals as he might think it for the interest of the Library to procure, The question of filling the vacancy existing in the Board through the resignation of Mr, Galloupe was then considered and after some consultation of an informal character On motion of Mr. Haddock, Warren Tilton Esq. was unanimously elected a member of the Board in place of Mr. C. W. Galloupe. On motion of Mr, Peirce Adjourned to Saturday evening next at 7 1/2 o'clock. B. O. Peirce Secy.
