1855-11-12 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 11/12/1855 Place: Town Clerk's Office Board members present: Richard P. Waters, William Endicott, Jr., Charles W. Galloupe, Charles Haddock, and Benjamin O. Peirce Board members absent: Others present: Recorder: Benjamin O. Peirce Monday evening November 12th 1855 A meeting of the Board was had at the Clerk's Room in the Town Hall. Present Messrs. Endicott, Galloupe, Haddock & Peirce. The committee of "conference with the Trustees of the Social Library" presented a communication received from them as follows Benjamin O. Peirce, Wm. Endicott, lr. Trustees of the Public Library. Gent. At a meeting of Proprietors of the Social Library in Beverly held October 6th 1855 a vote was passed authorizing their Trustees to transfer its Library and appurtenances into the hands of the trustees of the Public Library after all of its debt shall have been liquidated. We would state that the debts will not exceed twenty five dollars and it you are disposed to become liable for that amount we shall be ready at once to make the transfer and to receive your acknowledgment therefor. Beverly Oct. 18th 1885 Edwd. Pousland, Chas. Davis. Trustees of the Social Library in Beverly. The following resolutions were passed respecting this communication. Resolved That we receive the donation made to us by the Trustees of the Social Library. Resolved That a sum not exceeding twenty five dollars be appropriated from the funds of the Public Library to answer the claims alluded to in their communication. Resolved That the Secretary be requested to present to the Proprietors of the Social Library the thanks of this board for their donation. Resolved That Messrs. Peirce & Haddock, with the aid of the Librarian, be a committee to examine the condition of the Books of the Social Library & report the same to the board at as early a period as possible. Mr. Endicott presented the series of Rules & Regulations which had been prepared by the committee appointed for that purpose at the meeting of April 14th. These were received & laid over for consideration at the next meeting. Voted To adjourn to Saturday evening next at 7 o'clock. Mr. Endicott was chairman of their meeting. B. O. Peiree Seey.
