THURSDAY, SEPT. 15, 1960 4 P.M.
The regular meeting ofthe Board of Trustees was held at the Library on the above date. Present were
Mrs. Conrad, Miss StandIey, Mr. Hyde, Mr. Toomey and Mr. Lancaster.
The records of the previous meeting were approved as read and the Finance Sheets were studied. As
the Librarian reported that there is a salary deficit of $3100 for page money because of increases in
hourly pay, because of vacations, sickness, increased business, extra summer work and special
projects, the page money has been used up; it was VOTED to send a letter to the Mayor and Ch. of
Finance Committee asking them to meet with the Trustees in the very near future, to explain all of
the many doings of the Library and in addition to the request of $3100 for pages, add $900 more for
pointing steps and windows at Farms Branch add two outlets for charging machines at Main Library,
recovering the boiler and some plaster work in lower corridor and YPR also for charging machines
materials.
After all the reports of the department heads were read and approved it was felt that the importance
of the Library to the City should be stressed at this special meeting.
Mrs. Conrad stated that someone from the Division of public Libraries would make a survey on Oct.
18.
VOTED to increase the pay of Mrs. Pesce at Farms to $1.25 per hour.
Mrs. Conrad read 2 letters from Mrs. Norman D. Cobb, The Homestead, Newbury, Vermont, stating
that she is adding $2000 to the $1000 already given in memory of her son, to be known as the
"Theodore Fletcher Cobb Memorial Fund" to be used for such books or objects that would interest
and help to mold the character of young boys 8 to 18 years as it did for my son."
VOTED to extend Mrs. Taylor's probation until the Jan. Meeting. She has been transferred to the
Children's Dept. for the next 3 months to determine if she can more fully become acquainted with
Library techniques. Mrs. Dunklee has been placed at the Main Desk in her place.
Adjourned at 5:45.
