The regular meeting ofthe Board of Trustees was held on the above date. Present were Mrs. Conrad,
Miss Standicy, Mrs. Cook, Messrs. Pierce, Hyde, Lancaster and Tooracy.
The records of the previous meeting were approved as read, as were the Finance Sheets.
Mr. Toomey reported that the two boilers at the Main Library should he re-covered. As estimate of
$315 was given by Lee Hersey. As no money for repairs was allowed in the budget, it was decided
to approach the Mayor. Mr. Tooracy also said he would survey the front steps at the Farms as they
are badly in need of pointing. Also it was agreed that a sign should be placed at the Farms stating that
ball playing is strictly prohibited.
Miss Standley stated that a letter should be sent to Mr. Brindly Hall requesting trees for the Farms
Library Park. Also sent to the Beverly Farms Improvement Society as well as the Beverly
Improvement Society.
The reports of the Librarian and the Department Heads were read and placed on file.
VOTED to put an article in the paper that the linden and crab apple trees planted at the Farms Library
Park are in memory of Mrs. Conrad's father and mother.
After discussion of a fan and charging machine for bookmobile, Mr. Toomey offered to attend to
these details.
Because of a few complaints, the opening hours of the Library came up for discussion. VOTED that
the Main Library only, from Sept. 12 to Dec. 31 to extend the closing to 8:30. This to he on a trial
basis, during the school year. The hours 9-8:30, Mon. through Friday. Proper notification to he given
the public and the Staff will work I hour more, 36 hours per week at same salary.
After discussion of more telephone extensions it was VOTED to retain the present system and add
one extension for the Children's Room.
It was decided that the Trustees apply to the Mass. Division of public Libraries for a survey of the
Library.
At Mrs. Dunklee's request to go to the University of N. H. to take a summer course in library
techniques, it was VOTED to give her three weeks leave of absence with pay and allow her $75 to
ward the fee.
July and August meetings are to be omitted unless emergency arises.
VOTD to send a letter of thanks to Rotary Club for the gift of $69 m be used for the purchase of
educational records.
