Conrad, Russell P. Brown, Saul J. Cagan, Frank P. Hyde, Bruce Lancaster, Frederick H. Pierce, Carolyn F. StandIcy, and Thomas J. Toomey Board members absent: Dorothy C. Cook Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown THURSDAY, MAY 19, 1960 4 P. M. The regular Trustees Meeting was held at the Library on the above date. Those in attendance were Mrs. Conrad, presiding, Miss Standley, Messrs. Hyde, Lancaster, Brown, Pierce, Co0an and Toorney. The records of the April Meeting were approved as was the statement of the Finance Committee. For Admims'tration, Mr. Toomey reported that the grounds at the Farms Branch are a disgrace: boys playing ball, and lack of cooperation with the Police Dept. After discussion, Miss StandIcy offered to approach Mr. Brindley Hall, Ch. of the Lynch Fund Committee as to the possibility of obtaining benches and trees to make an attractive park. At Mrs. Nevers request for a fan for the bookmobile, Mr. Toomey stated that he would inquire as to one. The reports of the Circulation Committee and the Librarians' reports were read and placed on fie. VOTED that as the bookmobile was desperate for books, especially for children, $500 was allocated for the purpose for the balance of the year. VOTED to rein 4 Gaylord charging machines, one to be adapted for the boolcrnobile, plus, needed supplies. The cost for renting the machines is $50 per machine and estimated cost of borrowers cards $300, and book cards, date books and card holders would be $150. Mr. Lancaster, Ch. oftbe Study of Vacations presented his report. VOTED to accept same and it is herein on file. After a long discussion of older vacation policies Mr. Pierce made the following motion and it was SO VOTED: "I move the adoption of the recommendation of the Committee on Vacations with the provision that the full time members of the present permanent Staff remain in STATUS QUO as long as employment cominues." VOTED that present permanent part-time members of the staff; working 9 months of the year should have one week vacation with pay. Under present City of Beverly ordinance which governs the vacation of some custodians in the City of Beverly, the Library janitors who have had less than 10 years service shall have 2 weeks vacation annually with pay, for 10 years or more 3 weeks, and 4 weeks aRer 20 years. The Committee appointed by the Chairman at the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Beverly Public Library on April 20, 1960, to study the question of vacations for Library personnel and to recommend for action such changes as deemed suitable, met on Monday, April 25, 1960. There were present Messrs. Brace Lancaster (Chairman), Frank P. Hyde and Russell P. Brown. After considerable discussion, the following vacation schedule for Library persormel was unanimously agreed upon and is hereby recommended to the Board of Trustees for action: At the end of six momhs' service, if within a calendar year* ...............................................................................1 week. From one to five years' service .........................................................2 weeks. From five to fifteen years' service weeks ...........................................3 weeks. FiReen years' service and Up ............................................................4 weeks. *Employes resigning or hid off prior to April 1 will be paid one-half their normal vacation period.
