1959-12-17 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 12/17/1959 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Frank P. Hyde, Bruce Lancaster, Frederick H. Pierce, and Thomas J. Tooracy Board members absent: Russell P. Brown, Saul J. Cagan, Dorothy C. Cook, and Carolyn F. Standley Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Thursday, Dec. 17, 1959 4 P. M. The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on the above date at the Library with Mrs. Conrad, Mr. Hyde, Mr. Lancaster, Mr. Tooracy, and Mr. Pierce in attendance. After discussion of the Finance Sheets, they were studied and accepted. For Administration, Mr. Toomey reported as to the new valves to be installed on the upper floor radiators and stated that the job would be completed soon. Mr. Tooracy reported as to the Ebenezer Ray Fund that is in the process of being studied by the City Solicitor, who has been asked for an opinion. The feeling is that it should be under the direction of the Board of Trustees. After a discussion of the Funds a motion was made by Mr. Tooracy and SO VOTED that Mr. Pierce and Mr. Hyde be authorized to consult with the Trust Fund Commissioners as to reviewing same so that changes can be made to increase investments. The reports of Librarian, Dept. Heads, Bookmobile were approved as read and placed on file. An application from Mrs. Mary Bunk Nelson was read asking for part-time work mostly on the bookmobile. VOTED to give her the part-time work. There was a discussion of the application of Mrs. Helen Costello requesting full-time work. It was tabled as full-time work is not available at this tine. To fill the position of Head of Circulation now held by Mrs. Pratt, Mrs. Patch - was VOTED to take her phce as of Feb. 1, at a beginning salary of $67.75 per week--Job Group 9, Barrington Report. If elig~le and when Civil Service list arrives, it was VOTED to appoint Joseph Deschenes as permanent Junior Building Custodian. It was VOTED to transfer the Shut-in Service to the Bookmobile as of Jan. 1, 1960. Mrs. Palmer is to have her pay for Jan., Feb. and Mar., 1960. She will make no more deliveries and a letter of appreciation sent to her for her long service. It was felt that Mrs. Cook should send a letter of appreciation to Mr. Claude Patten for the excellent hook cases that were made at Trade School for the Childrens Room. Adjourned 6 P.M. Marion A.
