1959-11-19 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 11/19/1959 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Russell P. Brown, Dorothy C. Cook, Frank P. Hyde, Frederick H. Pierce, Carolyn F. StandIcy, and Thomas J. Tooracy Board members absent: Saul J. Cagan, Bruce Lancaster, Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown THURSDAY, NOV. 199 1959 4P.M. The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was hem at the Library on the above date. Those in attendance were Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Cook, Miss StandIcy, Mr. Pierce, Mr. Tooracy, Mr. Hyde and Mr. Brown. The records were approved as read. After study ofthe Finance Sheets and the 1960 Budget, with a few corrections, it was VOTED to set the Budget as corrected;- Salaries; $64,506.00. This includes a new position of desk assistant and an increase in Page money. Maintenance:- $21,600.00. This includes a change from Rent to Bookmobile -$2000. Other outlays were Farms repair to windows and doors: $1500 and a new charging desk at the Main Library $1500. The total 1960 Budget was set for $89,106.00. Mr. Toomey reported for Administration that he is working on more heat for Main Library Hall and will report later. At the Librarian's request for $300 to be added to page money for balance of year, as there is a deficit due to a statement made in Sept. that $1227 was necessary for the Special Services Libra and the pages, and the City Government provided but $1000. Since Oct. 1, 2000 more books have circulated over the previous month, 426 more reference questions answered and 250 more magazines located. Since Oct. 26 to Nov. 19, 2397 book were circulated from the bookmobile. This figure compares with the deposits which circulated 6140 books during the 9 months - Jan. 1 - Sept 1, 1959 when deposits were discontinued. This necessitated the pages fill in for the Staff who had to help on the bookmobile. Mrs. Conrad and Mr. Tooracy will approach the Mayor. The report of the Librarian and all other reports were accepted as read and placed on file. A discussion of a new charging desk for Main Library, and it was suggested to approach the Trade School.
