1959-10-15 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 10/15/1959 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Russell P. Brown, Saul J. Cagan, Dorothy C. Cook, Frank P. Hyde, Bruce Lancaster, Frederick H. Pierce, Carolyn F. Standley, and Thomas J. Toomey Board members absent: Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Thursday, Oct. 15, 1959 4 P.M. The regular meeting ofthe Board of Trustees was held on the above date. Those in attendance were Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Cook, Miss StandIcy, Mr. Lancaster, Mr. Pierce, Mr. Tooracy, Mr. Cagan and Mr. Hyde. The records were approved as read and after study the Finance Sheets were accepted. Mrs. Conrad explained that finally the Mayor and Aldermen were convinced that $1000 was necessary to take care of the salary of the Special Services Librarian. All readings were passed and $1000 was appropriated. A discussion of the existing coal bin to he used for garaging the bookmobile was held but it was explained that it would he a very expensive project. Mr. Toomey reported that at the Farms, the flag pole and tree have been removed. He also reported that because the hall is very cold on cold nights the Camera Club will have to meet elsewhere. Mr. Toomey was authorized to inquire as to the cost of installing a thermostat on the top floor which might prove a solution. Upon request of the Librarian, so as to decrease the time spent on sending overdue notices, to increase Is from 0.01 to 0.03 per day. It was VOTED: Effective Nov. 1 to increase fines from 0.01 to 0.02 per day. The Librarian's Report, monthly reports, reports of Department Heads and Bookmobile report were accepted as read and placed on file. VOTED: Christmas Eve and New Years Eve to close at 6 o'clock as always as well as Sat. morning after Christmas and New Years. VOTED to purchase a plaque for the Bookmobile, Mr. Toomey to attend to, and worded: This Bookmobile was purchased with monies from The Sarah L. Whitmarsh Fund and an anonymous donor. Dedicated October 23, 1959 It was brought up that lVlrs. Pratt is due to retire at the end of Jan. 1960. All felt that there should be a "Party" for her. Adjourned 5:30 Marion A. Brown Clerk
