Conrad, Russell P. Brown, Dorothy Cook, Frederick Pierce, Carolyn StandIcy, and Thomas J. Toomey Board members absent: John C. Birmingham, W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., and Saul J. Cagan Others present: Fred Bucci and Oscar Olsen, Beverly Chamber of Commerce Recorder: Marion A. Brown Thursday September 19, 1957 The regular meeting of the trustees was held at the Library, Sept. 19 at 7:30 P.M. with the Chairman Mrs. Conrad presiding. Present were Miss StandIcy, Mrs. Cook, Mr. Brown, Mr. Pierce and Mr. Toomey. The meeting was not called to order until 8 o'cloek as Mr. Bueei, Chairman of Chamber of Commerce Parking Committee requested time to discuss the Winter St. land for use as a parking lot. Mr. Olsen of the Chamber was also present. They explained that more parking space is necessary and the City Government would without doubt pay for this project. It would be made very attractive and there would be space for 45-50 ears. Plans were shown and a long discussion followed after which Mr. Bucci and Mr. Olsen left asking if the Trustees would take the matter under advisement. The meeting than came to order and Mr. Cagan moved that the problem of the parking lot be laid on the table and so voted. Mrs. Conrad appointed Mr. Pierce, Chairman, Mrs. Cook and Mr. Cagan a committee to investigate and seek concrete information concerning the Trust Funds of the Beve~y Public Library and have ready before the Dec. meeting. The records of the last meeting were approved as read as were the finance sheets after careful study. Mrs. Conrad reported for the Administration Committee that a tree needed to be removed at the Farms Branch. She will contact Mr. Duwart, Street Commissioner. The problem of children playing football on Farms Library lawn and park was brought up. Mr. Toomey stated that he would contact the Chief of Police. A report of the Circulation Committee was read and placed on file as was the Librarian's report giving details of the summer activities. Mr. Tooracy, Chairman of the Building Commission for the New Roof and General Repairs presented an excellent report of what the Commission has done to date. The following motions were voted: Voted: permission to North Shore Antiques Club the use of the Library Hall the evenings of Oct. 16 and Jan. 15, 1958. Voted: That on days of the North Shore Library Club Meetings the Main Library and Farms Branch will be closed until 2 o'clock. Voted: That Mr. Toomey be authorized to purchase an adding machine - the money to be taken from Trust Funds. Mrs. Conrad asked Mr. Cagan to assist her in making a salary survey and present them to the Mayor before the budget goes to City Hall. Meeting adjourned at 9:10 Marion A.
