1957-05-16 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 05/16/1957 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., Saul J. Cagan, Dorothy Cook, Frederick Pierce, Carolyn StandIcy, and Thomas J. Toomey Board members absent: John C. Birmingham, and Russell P. Brown Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Thursday May 16, 1957 The Board of Trustees held their regular meeting at the Library, Thursday, May 16 at 7:30 with Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Cook, Miss StandIcy, Mr. Pierce, Mr. Cagan, Mr. Toomey and Mr. Boyden in attendance. The records of the last meeting were approved as read as was the report of the Finance Committee ~iving a summary of expenditures. It was decided that more money was needed for Janitor supplies $200, Repairs & Furniture $600 and $700 more for Office Supplies as this is year for re- registering also $1000 additional was needed for pages to help do this work and also needed for summer activities. Mr. Boyden brought in plans and specifications for a complete roof job, the probable cost would be in vicinity of $15,000. He suggested that it would be wise to employ a professional estimator to check on the cost. It was voted to authorize Mr. Boyden to attend to this matter and any charge to be taken from Trust Funds. Mrs. Conrad appointed Mr. Boyden, Mr. Toomey and Mrs. Cook to approach the Mayor with plans and specifications as soon as the estimator is obtained and than request the money for this purpose as well as for an additional $2500 to increase Maintenance Items and for page money. Mr. Toomey extended sincere thanks and praise to Mr. Boyden for an excellent piece of work and offered to have more copies made. He also agreed to make a date to meet with the Mayor very soon. ARer studying the specifications for Re-roofing and General repairs it was voted to make changes in 1-05 (a) and (b) Insurance. A question arose as to making possible adjustments to Staff salaries but Mr. Tooracy advised that it might prove more beneficial at this time to accept the proposed 10% increase and lay this program over until next year. AH agreed. Miss StandIcy made a brief report of the meeting held at Marblehead on State and Federal Aid. Her feeling was that it might be of advantage to small towns but not for cities. Mr. Toomey asked if all were in agreement with his idea of approaching Dr. Bierkoe of Endicott College in presenting the Library with $250 worth of books. All agreed. The monthly report and Librarian' s report were approved as read and placed on file. Adjourned at 9:10 Marion A. Brown, Clerk
