Pierce and Mr. Boyden.
The records of the last meeting were approved as read, alter which Mrs. Conrad moved to
the organization of the Board.
By ballot Mrs. Conrad was unanimously elected Chairman and Mrs. Cook, Secretary. The
Chairman will appoint her 1957 Standing Committees later. Mrs. Conrad explained that she felt that
a concrete program for the building should be adopted and future programs should be considered.
The report of the Finance Committee, giving details of expenditures and balances was
discussed and approved. It was agreed that at the June meeting, recommendations should be drawn
up as more money must be added to Maintenance and more page money is needed. Also, there was
a discussion of the Trust Funds. It was of the opinion a study should be made of these Funds.
The Administration Committee brought to the attention of the Board the most important
matter of the very poor condition of the roof of the Main Building. Mr. Boyden stated that he did
check with Dutelle Co. as to the conditions and read all the suggestions presented by them. Mrs.
Conrad then authorized Mr. Boyden to proceed with this study and draw up specifications. He is to
bring in the results by the May 16th meeting so as to try to obtain an appropriation before June 1st and
present to the Mayor all plans and specifications.
It was decided that the Janitor could trim 1 foot off the top of the hedge.
As a telephone pole had been erected very near the fence on the westerly side of the Winter
St. lot because of the unwise consent of the Librarian it was voted to send a letter to the N.E. Tel.
& Tel. Co. granting a temporary permit for this pole and stating that at such time that was deemed
necessary said pole should be removed by the Tel. Co. at the discretion of the Trustees.
Mrs. Conrad explained that the book space and possibly a book wagon for the hospital work
might be provided by the Hospital. It was left to the discretion of the Chairman.
