1956-10-18 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 10/18/1956 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, John C. Birmingham, Saul J. Cagan, Dorothy Cook, and Carolyn StandIcy, Board members absent: W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., Russell P. Brown, Frederick Pierce, and Thomas J. Toomey Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Thursday October 18, 1956 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Thursday October 18 at 7:30. Present were Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Cook, Miss StandIcy, Mr. Cagan and Mr. Birmingham. The Secretary' s Report of the meeting of Sept. 20 was read and approved. The report of the Finance Committee was presented and discussed. As the Mayor could not make any definite promise to Mr. Russell Brown, when the $885 would be available for the Stack lights it was voted to take $285 from Maintenance so that the work could start immediately if McQueeny the lowest bidder would agree. It was hoped that the remaining $600 would be granted by January. It was decided to cornact Sullivan Roofing concerning the 20 year Bond on the roof which expires in 1959. The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 293 books and 16 gifts. This was approved and placed on file. The Report of the Librarian giving activities of the month were read and approved. As Mrs. Florence Fortunato will be leaving at the end of December (to become a mother) Mrs. Emily Tale sent in an application asking for a transfer to the Adult Dept. It was decided to take the application under consideration and let her try out in the Adult Dept. for 2 or 3 weeks. It also was decided to explore all possibilities of obtaining a new assistant at a salary that could be offered and try to obtain some solution by the next meeting. It was voted to grant the Beverly Municipal Credit Union the use of the hall on Tuesday Nov. 20 from 7 to 9 P.M. As the Legion use of the Beverly Farms Hall terminates the fourth Monday in October Mr. Birmingham made a motion that the time be extended until Dec. 31, 1956 on the same terms. Its was so voted. Mr. Birmingham, Chairman of Bookmobile Committee reported that he had visited a second hand 1949 Bookmobile in Boston. These was a possibility to purchase. Mr. Cagan and Mr. Birmingham are to inspect it again and make another report. Adjourned Marion A. Brown Clerk
