The regular meeting of the Board was held on Thursday May 17 at 7:30 P.M. with Mrs.
Conrad, Chairman presiding. Present were Miss StandIcy, Mrs. Cook, Mr. Cagan and Mr. Pierce.
The report of the regular meeting of April 25 was read and approved as was the report of the
Finance Committee giving details of expenditures and balances to date.
It was explained to the Administration Committee that the Faxms Branch grounds should have
the rubbish, leaves, stump, wire fence and some part of old pole fence removed. It was decided to
have it taken care of by a Farms man (Mr. Brady.) The matter of repairing the Farms fence, because
of the very rotted condition, it was decided to wait until the new Fire Sation was completed and then
consider a link fence. For the present, the matter of the Faxms front door was left to the janitor and
the City men to make needed repairs. Because of the apparent dampness in the walls of the Farms
Adult Reading Room and the leaks at Central Library it was voted to empower Mrs. Conrad to
employ a proper engineer to make a survey of these conditions.
The Circulation Committee recommended the purchase of 581 books of which 304 were
juvenile. The monthly report giving circulation figures, etc. was read and approved. The Librarian's report of activities was presented and placed on file.
Because of a request from James A. Murphy to use the Library Hall for an organization
meeting of 30 persons to plan for the B.H.S Class of 1941, 15m reunion it was voted that they be
allowed to use the hall for the one evening - May 28 7:45 - 10 and would pay the janitor.
A discussion was held considering another local Talent Art & Hobby Exhibit at the Farms
Library and all felt it would be an excellent idea.
It was decided to obtain "See Canada on your movie screen" - films loaned by the Nationall
Film Board of Canada for Library circulation and use. The only cost would be transportation charges.
Mrs. Conrad explained that the Farms Legion planned as a feature of this year's Memorial
Day parade - a book on the Yankee Division would be presented to Library officials in memory of
the late Eugene Murphy, a veteran member of M. J. Cadigan Post. The ceremony will take place on
Vine St. at 1:30, Memorial Day. Mrs. Conrad would be present.
It was voted that the Librarian should be sent to the ALA Annual Meeting at Miami Beach
in June, if reservations can be made and expenses be taken from Trust Funds.
As it is the usual thing to dispense with the July and August meetings it was decided to vote
at the June meeting as to what requests should be presented to the Mayor such as appropriations for
Stack lights, Fence - Farms, Repairs as to leaks, Flooring - 3~ Floor, etc.
Voted to adjourn
