1956-03-22 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 03/22/1956 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, John C. Birmingham, W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., Saul J. Cagart, Dorothy Cook,, Carolyn StandIcy, and Carl Zeilon Board members absent:Russell P. Brown, and Frederick Pierce Others present: Commander Daniel T. Deering, Joseph Donovan and Barrett Wendell from the Michael J. Cadigan Post 46 American Legion Recorder: Marion A. Brown Thursday March 22 7:30 A Special Meeting was called for March 22, the purpose of which to meet with the Farms Legion delegation at 8 P .M. Present were Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Cook, Miss StandIcy, Mr. Birmingham, Mr. Zeilon, Mr. Cagan & Mr. Boyden. From the Legion at 8 P.M. were Commander Deering, Mr. Joseph Donovan & Mr. Barrett Wendell. The resolution and rules were discussed. At 8 o'clock Commander Deering arrived and explained that the Cadigan Post had lost their home because of the erection of new Fire Headquarters. He said that new quarters must be found and hoped that the Trustees would be willing to grant temporary quarters in the Farms Branch Library Hall. The regular activities are the 2nd and 4m Monday of each month and a focal point is necessary for the Memorial Day Parade. He also explained that definite plans have been in process for a permanent home but it would cost a lot &money. ARer which the delegates left and they were informed that a letter would be sent to them at the end of the week. Mr. Cagan & Mrs. Conrad drew up the final resolutions which were mailed Friday Mar. 23 and a copy released to the Beverly Times and Salem News on March 27. It was voted to attend to the front door of the Farms Branch as the frame has become badly rotted. Because of the Holiday April 19 it was voted to hold the next regular meeting on April 26 at 7:30.
