Conrad, John C. Birmingham, Saul J. Cagan, Dorothy Cook, Frederick Pierce, Carolyn Standley, and Carl Zeilon Board members absent: W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., and Russell P. Brown Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Beverly March 15, 1956 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Beverly Farms Branch on Thursday, March 15 at 7:30. The reason for this was because of the request ofM. J. Cadigan Post 46 American Legion for the use of the hall at the Farms Branch. Mrs. Conrad felt that the Trustees should become familiar with all the circumstances of this request. A conference had been held concerning this problem at City Hall, March 5 at 7 P.M. with the Mayor, Board of Aldermen, Beverly Farms Police-Fire Building Commission, the Farms Legion and the Trustees, Mrs. Conrad, Mr. Cagan, Mr. Pierce & Mr. Zeilon. This meeting was called to order by Mrs Conrad, Chairman. Present were Mrs. Cook, Miss StandIcy, Mr Cagan, Mr. Birmingham, Mr. Pierce and Mr. Zielon. The records of Feb. 16 were read and approved as was the report of the Finance Committee giving expenditures to date. The budget for 1956 was presented showing the increase and cuts made by the Mayor and the Finance Committee of the Aldermen. The Circulation Committee recommended the purchase of 341 books which was approved. The report of the Librarian was read and placed on file. It was voted to move to the organization of the Board. By ballot Mrs. Conrad was unanimously elected Chairman of the Board and Mrs. Cook was elected Secretary. The Chairman would appoint her Committees later. Mrs. Conrad then brought up the purpose of this meeting. Mr. Cagan explained in detail as to the Conference held in City Hall. He stated Commander Deering of the Cadigan Post was the main speaker, explaining that new quarters were needed and he hoped the Trustees would be willing to grant their request for the use of the Farms hall. The Mayor expressed his views and stated that it was up to the Board of Trustees to attend to this problem. Mrs. Conrad stated that a letter had been set to Commander Deering inviting a small Legion delegation to attend a Meeting of the Trustees to be held at the Main Library on Thursday Mar. 22 at 8 P.M. At Mr. Birmingham's suggestion a decision was made to draw up some resolutions and rules. These were composed and turned over to Mr. Cagan for further consideration, and copies of which would be sent to each of the Trustees. Mr. Bennett Merry, City Clerk, requested the use of the Farms Hall for voting purposes. The Presidential primary Apr. 24 and for the Sept. 18th voting day. It was voted to cooperate and send a letter accordingly. It was decided to send a notice to the Mayor as to the March 22 meeting with the Legion delegation. Voted to adjourn Adjourned Marion A.
