Beverly February 16, 1956
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7:30. In the
absence of Mrs. Conrad and Mrs. Cook, Mr. Cagan was elected to be Chairman for this meeting.
Present were Miss StandIcy, Mr. Pierce, Mr. Zeilon and Mr. Birmingham.
The Seeretary's records of the meeting of January 19 were read and approved.
Since the budget for the year had not yet been approved by the City Government, the Finance
Committee could make no report. Expenditures for January were normal. The amount of the Trust
Funds were received for the amount $4,038.66.
The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 307 books which was approved.
The report of the Librarian giving a summary of circulation and registration figures were read
and placed on file.
It was voted to have Russ and Mulligan put the toilet in the Youth Room in condition at their
estimate of $125.
A letter from the Moore Construction Co. was read conceming the leak over the arched
window going to the third floor. It was voted that Mrs. Conrad be authorized to attend to this matter.
Mr. Clark was asked to explain that the State Boiler Inspector had been in and stated the mud
drums needed attention and the fusible plugs removed. It was voted to wait for a letter from the State
Inspector.
The matter of taking inventory was brought to the attention of the Board. It was felt that the
Library should not close and it was decided to wait for another meeting to consider this item.
It was brought up as to the purchasing of light love stories published by Avalon or Arcadia
Publishing Companies. It was explained that the policy of many libraries is not to purchase them. Also
the Library Commission (Division of Library Extension) does not recommend buying them. However,
because of many demands it was voted to purchase as in the past at the discretion of the Librarian.
The matter of having Holiday weekends off was brought up-it was voted to take up the
Holidays one by one as they approach.
A discussion of the library closing hot days and bad weather snow storms etc. It was voted
4 to 1, Miss Standley against, that the Library remain open the times that it is supposed to be open
but in case of extreme heat or extremely bad weather to use a small Staff leaving to the discretion of
Librarian.
