1956-01-19 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 01/19/1956 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Saul J. Cagan, Dorothy Cook, Frederick Pierce, Carolyn StandIcy, and Carl Zeilon Board members absent: John C. Birmingham, W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., and Russell P. Brown, Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Thursday, January 19, 1956 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library on Thursday, January 19 at 7:30 P.M. with Mrs. Conrad, Chairman presiding. Present were Mrs. Cook, Miss StandIcy, Mr. Cagan, Mr. Zeilon, & Mr. Pierce. The records of the meeting of Nov. 15 were read and approved as was the report of the Finance Committee giving a general summary of expenses for the year. The December meeting was canceled because of weather conditions and lack of a quorum and little business. The report of the Circulation Committee recommending the purchase of 87 titles was read and approved. The Librarian' s report giving a summary of circulation, registration and activities of the year was placed on file. In response to a request from Mrs. Palmer, who carries on the Shut-in service, that the Library once again pay the insurance on her car it was voted that this be done as in the past and the money to come from Trust Funds. The Annual report of the Trustees which was prepared by Mrs. Conrad and the Libradan was read and discussed although it is an unusually long report it was felt that it was very necessary because of the Centennial Year. It was voted to present this report as the formal Report of the Board of Trustees and the Libradan to the City Government and the Beverly Times. It was voted to spend the balance of the Trust Fund money amounting to $250 which is really restricted for the use of history and political reference books, from the Bessie Baker Fund. The Administration Committee then brought up the 1956 projects recommended by the Custodian. It was voted to proceed with all the smaller items such as removing pipe from the water column to ash pit in case shut-off let go letting water go into burner. Replace 5 panes of glass in Art Room & Lecture Hall sky lights. New flush fitting in two toilets and put back in use toilet off Y.P.R. Other projects to be considered later when new budget is returned from City Govemment. It was voted to contact Moore Construction Co. concerning a leak over arched window on stairway.
