The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at 7:30 on Thursday October 20 with
the Chairman, Mrs. Conrad presiding. Present were Mrs. Cook, Miss StandIcy, Mr. Cagan and Mr.
Pierce.
The records of the last meeting were read and approved. The finance sheets were studied and
accepted.
Mrs. Conrad explained that she had received a letter from Mr. Wigglesworth requesting the
use of the Farms Hall for Farms American Legion quarters for a full year. It was voted to send a reply
explaining why the Board is against a permanent use of the hall however as the City had postponed
the building of the new Fire Station for a year, the Legion Meeting place will remain the same.
The matter of the leaks in the pipes in the boiler room and work room was brought to the
attention of the Board and it was agreed that these were very necessary repairs to be done at once
and to contact Russo & Mulligan.
A letter was read from the Municipal Employees Assoe. requesting the use of the Main
Library Hall for an annual meeting. It was voted that they should have the use of it as in the past.
A letter was read from Mrs. George Frazier of Beverly Farms requesting the use of the Farms
Hall for a group of 13 Girl Scouts to hold regular meetings three times a week. It was voted that as
before the Farms Hall should be used for special occasions not for permanent headquarters for an
organization.
Mrs. Conrad then brought up the bids for the Mason work on Main Building. She explained
that these bids were opened Sept. 30, from 4 concerns. The Moore Construction Inc., 470 Centre
Street, Jamaica Plain was the lowest bidder: the amount $932 - Pointing masonry $490:
Waterproofing brick $182, Cementing steps $260. It was voted to accept the above bid. The Mayor
allowed $750. It was voted to use remainder from Other Repairs.
A discussion was held as to the poster contest in the Childtens Room that would lead up to
Book Week a special entertainment for the Children given by Tasha Tudor author & illustrator.
Miss Standley explained that in observance of United Nations 10a' anniversary, the Friendly
Garden Club would plant a spruce tree on library grounds in accordance with a recommendation to
the Friendly Garden Club from the Garden Club Federation of Mass.
Mrs. Conrad read a letter from Mr. Milton Lord, Director of Boston Public Library expressing
his pleasure of the 100~ Anniversary of the Library on Sept. 11t.
The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 343 books, 57 replacements,
1 gift and 20 Farms books. This was approved as was the report of the Librarian giving details of
circulation and registration.
It was voted to have the next meeting on Tues., Nov. 15 as Nov. 17 was the Tasha Tudor
Entertainment evening.
