1954-12-16 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 12/16/1954 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Philip Rowe, John C. Birmingham, Dorothy Cook, and Carl Zeilon Board members absent: Russell P. Brown, W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., Saul J. Cagan, Louisa V. Conrad, and Carolyn Standley Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown December 16, 1954 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library, December 16 at 7:30 P.M. Mr. Rowe, Chairman presided. Others present were Mrs. Cook, Mr. Zeilon and Mr. Birmingham. The Secretary's report of the meeting of November 18 was read and approved as was the report of the Finance Committee giving a summary of expenditures and balances for the whole of the year. It was felt that much has been accomplished: with the opening of the Y.P.R., converting to oil and new lighting and completion of the painting of both Reading Rooms and Foyer. The report of the Librarian was presented and placed on file. A discussion took place as to improved lighting for the stacks. Mr. Rowe explained that he had asked Mr. Greenlaw to consider some improvement for the present, that would not involve too much expense. A suggestion was made as to using all over the stacks a uniform bulb. Mr. Greenlaw would make another report. Our anniversary was then discussed. It was suggested that 4 or 5 lectures might be a good beginning. Perhaps a talk on employment relationship, finance, atomic age, etc. It was definitely felt that we should go all out as much as possible for the Centennial. It was voted to close at noon, the day before Christmas and 6 o'clock New Year's Eve. Voted to adjourn Adjourned Marion A. Brown Clerk
