All members were present except Mrs. Conrad who was absent because of illness. Mr. Rowe, the Chainnan presided. The records of June 17m were approved as read. The finance sheets were studied. Because of increases in so many items, Books, telephone, Office Supplies, express and others, some part of the dog tax must be use to carry on, thus leaving little to go towards converting to oil. Mr. Rowe than brought up the problem of converting to oil. It was voted to immediately advertise for bids, using the specifications prepared by Mr. B. Powers (Hamel & Powers Co.) of Swampscott and to get an OK from the City Solicitor. Mr. Zeilon explained that Mr. Davis, Chief Heating Engineer from U.S.M.C. believed that 3 automatic thermostatic controls used in conjunction with present heating system should take care of Y.P .R. however after a long discussion there was a majority vote to have an auxiliary gas unit heater installed by the North Shore Gas Co. who had given us estimates. Mr. Brown would make arrangements. The probable cost would be in the vicinity of $450. This amount to be taken from wherever possible. The report of circulation and the Librarian's report giving a summary of circulation, registration and activities were read and placed on file. Much interest was shown in the fact that the book circulation had increased 20,300 over that of the same period in 1953.
