Birmingham, Russell P. Brown, Saul J. Cagan, Louisa V. Conrad, Dorothy Cook, and Carolyn Standley Board members absent: W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., and Carl Zeilon Others present: Recorder: Marion A~ Brown Beverly, May 20, 1954 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library, Thursday May 20 at 7:30 P.M. Present were Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Cook, Miss Carolyn Standley (newly appointed by Mayor Wilkinson in place of Mr, Foster) Mr. Brown, Mr. Cagan and Mr. Birmingham. Mr. Rowe, the Chairman presided. The records of April 14 were read and approved. At~er discussing the finance sheets they were approved and placed on file. There was a short discussion about the heating problem as to the oil conversion but it was felt that no progress could be made at present. Heating for the Young Peoples Room was then discussed and it was voted to prepare specifications for bid for a unit gas- heater and take money from dog tax. The approximate amount for this would probably be $450. It was left for Mr. Brown to attend to this matter. The purchase of 251 new books was accepted. The Libradan's report showing to date a gain in circulation of over 8000 was read and placed on file. It was voted to send a letter of thanks to the Friendly Garden Club for planting the flower border at the rear of the Library. It was voted to send a letter to the City Solicitor inquiring as to what procedure should be taken regarding the accident which occurred Sunday morning May 17m when 2 cars came together at Dane & Essex Street causing some damage to the hedge. Cars belonged to Edward J. Allen, 9 Whipple Road, Lynn and Robert J. Munroe, 32 Mechanic St., Beverly. Apparently Allen's ear did the damage. Voted to adjourn Marion A. Brown Clerk
