Foster Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Beverly, October 29, 1953 7:00 o'clock This Special Meeting was called primarily to come to a conclusion as to what to do with the light fixtures. Present were Mr. Rowe, Mrs. Conrad, Mr. Cagan, Mr. Zeilon and Mr. Boyden. Mr. Kenney, Acting City Electrician was asked to attend this meeting to express his ideas of the fixtures. His opinion was that if these fixtures are installed we would be making a backward step of a least 10 years. He discussed the Survey made by the Gas & Electric Co. and from the data that was in his office he felt the Survey was in line and would give satisfaction, but as flush mounted fixtures were requested instead of those recommended in the Survey he would suggest that a change be made - to a fixture that would use slim line lamps or tubes as the fixtures we have cannot use them. After Mr. Kenney left, a long discussion took place and finally Mr. Rowe and Mrs. Conrad were authorized to make a change of fixture to one that would use a slim-line tube and not convert the present fixtures. It was decided to keep 14 of these fixtures for Students Room, Office, Reference Room and two Passageways, and it was voted pay for these from remaining $900 of Farms Janitor. These are to be installed by an electrician - getting estimates from Fisher & George, McQueeny and Joseph Greenlaw Co. it was voted to return all other fixtures and at next me~ting Nov. 19 start out new. A letter was sent to Wolfers Co. explaining this - A letter by returned mail stated we must keep these fixtures - They would not accept them. Voted to pay Thompson Electrical Service Co. from Trust Funds. Voted to pay Miss Kline' s tuition of $18 for a Winter course in Library Reference Work. (Course caneeled - only a few taking it) Voted to adjourn Marion A. Brown Clerk Because of length of this meeting it was left until Nov. 3 to take up the matter of budget.
