The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Thursday, June 18, 1953 at 7:30
P.M. with Mr. Rowe, Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Cook, and Messrs. Brown, Cagan, Birmingham and Zeilon
in attendance.
The records of the meeting of May 21, and of a Special Meeting, May 27, were read and
approved, as was also the report of the Finance Committee giving a summary of expenditures and
balances.
A check of $10.00 was received from the American Legion Auxiliary to be used for
subscriptions to two magazines. It was voted to send acknowledgment..
The matter of the Galvins fence was postponed until the fall meeting.
Mr. Rowe very generously offered the use of a power-mower for the Farms Branch. He also
authorized Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Cook and the Librarian to purchase 2 chairs and a table from Allen' s
Furniture Store, charged to him and to be used at the Conti Hower Shop, - the new location of the
North Beverly Book Deposit. It was voted to reimburse the Conti Hower Shop, up to the amount
orS100 for shelves that they provided for the use of the Book deposit.
It was voted: to spend from the Dog Tax the sum of $259.97 for a link fence to be put up at
the Farms Branch. The work to be done by Colllins Fence Service.
A suggestion was made to investigate the matter of converting to oil and to procure figures
from Picketing and others.
It was voted: to pay Miss Prince for an extension of another month as she is still out with a
bad heart condition.
It was voted: to raise salaries of the Librarians, Miss Prince, Miss Crafts, Mrs. Pratt, Miss
Munroe, Mrs. Hall, Miss Pinciaro and Farms Librarian, $100, making the raise retroactive to January
1. The balance ors 100 was voted to be transferred from Salaries to maintenance to be used for Office
Supplies. A copy of this vote to be sent to Board of Aldermen. The above $900 was the amount
remaining of the salary of Farms janitor.*
It was left for Mr. Brown to inquire as to these details and also look into the matter of the
hardware for the rear door as well as to having the door rehung for the High School Reference Room.
The report of the Circulation Committee was read and approved.
It was voted: for Mrs. Conrad to obtain the fixtures for the change of lighting in the two
Reading Rooms.
