Beverly, December 29, 1952
The regular meeting of the Board was held on Monday, December 29, at 7:30 P.M., with Mrs.
Conrad presiding and with Mrs. Cook, Mr. Rowe, Mr. Zeilon and Mr. Cagan being present, Mr.
Birmingham having stopped in to explain that he was on his way to attend his last School Committee
meeting, and so could not be present with the Trustees.
The records of the regular meeting of November 20, and of the Special Meeting held on
December 4, were read and approved.
The Finance Committee had no formal report to give, since it was so near the dose of the
year, after which the complete yearly report could be given.
There was no report from the Administration Committee beyond the fact that repairs to the
plumbing might run into a larger amount of money than at first anticipated and so might well be left
until leakage developed again.
The Circulation Committee reported the purchase of 131 new titles and the acceptance of 10
gifts, during December. The report was approved.
The Librarian' s report, telling of activities during the month, and giving details of circulation
and registration at the Main Library and at the Farms was presented and placed on file.
At the request of the Librarian it was vote to give Miss Prince, the Children' s Librarian, leave
of absence with pay during the month of January, because of a serious heart condition - further action
being taken, if necessary, at the January meeting of the Board.
Since the Art Room on the second floor was found to be unsuitable for use as a Reference
Room for students, the Board decided to use the so-called Document Room on the ground floor for
this purpose, Mr. Rowe being asked to get estimates on suitable lighting for the room, and Mrs.
Conrad to get catalogs showing the type chairs which might be used, Mr. Rowe was also asked to
interview the Curtis Lumber Company about new doors to replace the worn out ones at the Winter
Street entrance on the lower floor.
Mrs. Conrad reported that Mr. Howard Willjams of Beverly Farms would like to present a
photograph to the Library. Since there is no suitable place for displaying it in the Farms Library, the
Trustees voted to tell Mr. Willjams that they would be very glad to accept it if it could be used at the
Main Library.
