1945-10-25 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 10/25/1945 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Thomas F. Delaney, John C. Birmingham, and Robert O. Small Board members absent: W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., Thomas J. Casey, Lawrence E. Foster, William A. Rowe, Louisa L. Vaughan and B. Frederick Yoffa Others present: Recorder: M. Marion Allen Beverly, October 25, 1945 A regular meeting of the Board was called for October 25, at 7:30 P.M., but since Messrs. Delaney, Small and Birmingham were the only Trustees present, all action taken was subject to ratification at the next meeting of the Board. The Secretary's report of the meeting of September 27 was read and approved as was the report of the Finance Committee giving expenditures to date. The Administration Committee reported that it had been necessary to have the cesspool at the Farms Branch cleaned twice within the past three months, and that it might be necessary to build a new and larger one if trouble continued. Miss June Pickefing's price of $265 for the magazine subscriptions for 1946 was approved; and it was voted to subscribe also for six additional titles which had been recommended for libraries of this size. Voted also to subscribe to the same newspapers as those taken in 1945, and to place the order again with the Nathan Foster store of Beverly. Mr. Birmingham reported that his committee recommended, at present, that the Children's Room be used as a Reference Room during the evening hours; and stated that the Committee would look into the matter of using the Document Room as a Junior High School room - studying the expense of fitting up the room for this purpose and the cost of a duplicate collection of reference books, magazines, etc. Voted to adjourn Adjourned M.
