Beverly, January 29, 1931
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library on Thursday, January
29th, at 4 P.M.
There were present of the Board, Miss Loring, Messrs. Pond, Cronin and Rowe.
The records of the meeting of December 23 were read and approved.
The report of the Finance Committee, summing up expenditures and balances for the year
1930, was presented and approved. A letter from Mr. Small was also read relative to the budget for
1931.
The report of the Librarian, giving the details of circulation and registration for 1930, and
showing the great gains made in all departments since 1925, was read and placed on file.
The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 96 titles and the receipt of 42
gifts.
Voted: that this recommendation be accepted.
The Committee on Circulation also brought up the question of adding the magazine of Wall
Street to the list of periodicals for 1931. But it was decided that such a magazine was not necessary
for a library of this size.
Voted: to proceed to the organization of the Board.
It was moved and seconded that the Secretary be instructed to cast one ballot for chairman.
Miss Loring was unanimously chosen as chairman.
Miss Stanton was again made Secretary of the Board by unanimous voted.
Miss Loring, as chairman, then appointed the following committees:
The Secretary then read a letter received from Miss Emily Peirce of Cambridge, giving to
the library her grandfather's pencilled sketches of the Library seal.
Voted: that a vote of thanks be sent Miss Peirce for her interesting little gift.
