1919-25-01 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 01/25/1919 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Florence W. Braden, Joseph C. Kilham, Katharine P. Loring, Elizabeth P. Sohier, and Louis D. Webber Board members absent: William R. Driver, Lawrence A. Ford, Charles H. Henderson, and Helen L. Marsters Others present: Recorder: Charles H. Henderson Beverly Jan. 25th 1919 Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees at Library Building. Owing to the absence of Mr. Driver and Mr. Henderson, Mr. Kilham was chosen acting chairman and Mr. Webber acting secretary. Meeting called to order at 3:30 P.M. Those present being - Misses Loring & Sohier, Mrs. Braden, Messrs. Kilham & Webber. Records of previous meeting read & apr'd. Circulation Com: reported purchase of 48 titles and one gift from Dr. J. Collins Warren, same acknowledged by Miss Smith - Librarian. A letter was received from Miss Marjorie Stanton asking for a leave of absence for a period of six months - providing that she should receive an appointment as Librarian for Y.M.C.A. work in France. The above request was granted and Miss Loring and Mr. Webber were appointed a committee to make such changes in the staff as may seem necessary during the absence of Miss Stanton. During the past week Mr. C. A. Brown as expert from the office of Loring & Leland - architects - Boston made an examination of the upper story of the Library Building to determine the cause of the moisture coming through the walls and ceilings. A written report from Mr. Brown the examining expert was read and the same discussed, but no definite action was taken - the subject being laid on the table for further consideration. During the month of January the ceiling in the Childrens room had become affected to such an extent that it became necessary to take immediate action and the services of Mr. Geo. Hurd, Mason - was had and a new ceiling of Plaster Paris and Lime was put on making - we believe - a permanent job. Voted to adjourn. L. D. Webber Sec. Pro Tem By C. H. Henderson Secty.
