1916-30-09 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 09/30/1916 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: William R. Driver, Louis H. Baker, Lawrence A. Ford, Joseph C. Kilham, Katharine P. Loring, Elizabeth P. Sohier, and Louis D. Webber Board members absent: Margaret Whitney, and George E. Woodberry Others present: Recorder: Louis H. Baker A meeting of the Trustees of the Beverly Public Library was duly held on Saturday the 30th day of September, 1916, at 3:30 o'clock p.m. There were present of the Trustees, Mr. Driver, Miss Loring, Miss Sohier, Messrs. Ford, Kilham, Webber and Baker. The records of the meeting of June 24th were read and approve& The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 19 titles and on motion it was Voted: That the recommendation of the Committee on Circulation with respect to 19 titles, be and is hereby adopted. It appearing that there had been present no quorum for the transaction of business at the meetings of July 29th and August 26th, and that certain action had been taken by those present at the meetings, subject to the approval of the Board, these items were taken up and the following votes in relation thereto were passed: 1 st Voted: To approve the payment of the sum of $50.00 to Miss Frances L. Wiggin, for extra work performed by her at Beverly Farms Branch (from Trust Funds) 2nd Voted: To approve the purchase of 2 titles recommended by the Committee on Circulation at the meeting of July 29th. 3rd Voted: To appropriate the sum of $100 from the income from trust funds, for the purchase of books. 4th Voted: To appropriate from the income from trust funds a sum not exceeding $76 for the rebuilding of the fence on the back line of the Library lot. 5th Voted: To approve the purchase of 23 titles of general works and 53 titles of Mechanical works recommended by the Committee on Circulation at the meeting of August 26th. 6th Voted: To approve the employment of Miss Maidre Polleys, now resident in Essex, as an Assistant Librarian at a salary of $40 per month. The Finance Committee made a report of the Financial Condition of the Library to Oct. 1 st. The Committee on Circulation submitted a list of magazines for the ensuing year, and on motion it was Voted: That subscription for the ensuing year be made for the magazines recommended by the Committee on Circulation. The following resolution was unanimously adopted: Resolved: That in the death of Miss Ethel L. Dodge the Trustees recognize a serious loss to the Beverly Public Library. During the sixteen years of her service she was prompt, diligent and obliging. Her intelligence and excellent memory made her most valuable in the reference work while her gentle courtesy made her a universal friend at the delivery desk. Her career begun, promised to be a distinguished one. The Trustees wish to spread this resolution on their minutes and to send a copy to the family. Upon resumption of the discussion of the recommendations of the meeting of July 9'", it was, on motion Voted: To employ Miss Frances L. Wiggin for recataloguing and kindred work, exclusive of school work, and that a sum not exceeding $200 be appropriated from the income from trust funds to cover her salary (at the rate of $62.50 per month) to December 31 s, next.
