1899-26-08 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 08/26/1899 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: William R. Driver, Rev. Benjamin R. Bulkeley, Charles L. Dodge, Edward L. Giddings, Katharine P. Loring, Elizabeth P. Sohier, and George E. Woodberry Board members absent: Allen H. Bennett, and Joseph C. Kilham Others present: Recorder: Charles L. Dodge Beverly August 26th 1899 The regular meeting of the Trustees occurred on the above date. Present Messrs. Driver, Giddings, Woodberry, Bulkeley & Misses Loring and Sohier. The records of the last meeting were read and approve& Voted That while Miss Ethel Dodge is at the Farms Branch her railway fares to and from her home be paid by the Board. Voted That the purchase of nineteen titles submitted, ten titles recommended by not present, and two duplicates by the committee on circulation be approved. Voted That Leslies Official History of the Spanish War be not purchased. Voted That the Librarian send notice to the person suggesting the purchase of a book if it be purchased, that it will be held for three days for his call. Voted That the present classified catalogue be continued until the shelf list now being made by the Librarian is completed and that the question of introducing a dictionary catalogue be postponed until such completion. The chairman read the letter of Mr. Wheelfight addressed to Miss Loring and enclosing Five Hundred dollars ($500.00) for the uses of the Farms Branch of the Library. The Chairman was instructed to communicate the thanks of the Board to Mr. Wheelright and assure him that his wishes as to its use be carefully carded out. Voted That one hundred dollars ($100.00) from the amount above referred to be presently expended in the discretion of the Committee on Circulation and that the committee consider and suggest the uses to be made of the remainder of the gift. Voted That books not to exceed two hundred (200) titles be placed in the Reading Room, these to be selected by the Committee on Circulation, in order to bring to the attention of the public many books that have been for a considerable time on the shelves. Voted That the Chairman appoint a committee of three trustees including himself who shall prepare rules for the Control of the Library. Mr. Giddings and Mr. Woodberry were appointed. Voted That the September meeting of the Board be held on September 23d instead of the 30m. There being no further business the meeting was adjoumed. Charles L. Dodge Secretary
