Beverly July 29 1899
The regular monthly meeting of the Trustees occurred on the above date.
Present Messrs. Driver, Giddings, Woodberry, Dodge and Bulkeley and Misses Loring and
Sohier.
The records of the last meeting were read and approved.
Voted That the list of books submitted by the Committee on Circulation be approved.
Voted That the Committee be authorized to purchase additional volumes named but not shown.
Voted That the matter of books sent from Springfield be again referred to the Committee on
Circulation with power to act.
Voted That the public be allowed to examine such books as are placed on the counter in the reading
room without application by card.
Voted That the question of placing Magazines on the tables in the reading room be referred to the
Committee on Circulation. Also that they be authorized to issue one or more bulletins with
notes as an experiment.
Voted That the question of compensation of the relief librarian be referred to the Finance Committee
for action.
Voted That the librarian and assistant librarian each may be absent an afternoon and evening in each
week during the month of August of this year.
Voted That the question of closing the Beverly Farms Branch an extra week be left with the
Committee on branches with power to act
Voted That the Board of Trustees acknowledge with thanks the gift by Chief Justice Oliver Wendell
Holmes, to the Farms Branch of the Beverly Public Library of the desk so long used by his
distinguished father Dr. Holmes.
Voted That the president William R. Driver sign a petition assenting to the appointment of L. Frances
Lefavour trustee under the will of Joseph W. Lefavour late of Beverly, without giving surety
on her bond as such trustee.
The above vote was passed by request of the City Solicitor who stated in his communication
that the Judge of Probate required a certified copy. Both letter and copy will be found in letter
file, a similar voted was passed Oct. 29, 1898.
