1899-28-01 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 01/28/1899 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: William R. Driver, Rev, Benjamin R. Bulkeley, Charles L. Dodge, Katharine P, Loring, and Elizabeth P. Sohier Board members absent: Allen H. Bennett, Edward L. Giddings, Joseph D. Tuck, and George E. Woodberry Others present: Recorder: Charles L. Dodge Beverly Jan. 28, 1899 The regular monthly and annual meeting of the Trustees occurred on the above date. Present Messrs. Driver, Bulkeley, Dodge and Miss SoPtier and Loring. The meeting was eatled to order by the chairman. The records of the last meeting were read and approved. The vacancy on the board caused by the expiration of the terms of Messrs. Giddings, Tuck and Dodge has been filled by their re-appointment, for three years. On motion of Miss Loring, it was Voted That we proceed to organize. The following were balloted for and elected. For chairman William R. Driver For Secretary Charles L. Dodge For Librarian at the Main Library, Manha P. Smith For Asst. Librarian at the Main Library, Jennie P. Dodge. For Asst. Librarian at the Farms Branch Sylvia Bennett. On motion of Miss Sohler, It was Voted That the committees for the ensuing year be appointed by the chair, and reported upon at the next meeting. On motion of Miss Lofing, it was Voted That until further action of the board that there be only two deliveries of books at the Faxms Branch from the Main Library instead of four as heretofore. On motion of Miss Sohier, it was Voted That the library should not close in July as usual. On motion of Bulkeley, it was Voted That the committee on administration be authorized to employ an additional assistant for one month. On motion of Miss Loring, it was Voted That the committee on circulation be authorized to replace such books as they may deem necessary. A communication from the City Clerk inform the Trustees that by reason of Mr. Tuck' s declination to accept a re-appointment, Mr. Joseph C. Kilham had been appointed and confirmed in his stead, for three years, term expiring Jan. 31 ,t 1902. The librarian informed the board that up to Jan. 27, 99 50 new names had been registered, and that the circulation for Jan. was 4022 as against 3856 in Jan. 98, an increase of 166. Charles L.
