Beverly October 29th 1898
The regular monthly meeting of the Trustees occurred on the above date.
Present Messrs. Driver, Woodberry, Bulkeley, Dodge and Misses Loring and Sohier.
The meeting was called to order by the chairman.
The records of the last meeting were read and approved.
Mr. Driver submitted a statement relating to a change of Trustee of the estate of Joseph W.
Lefavour. That Mr. Benjamin W. Russell having resigned, Mrs. Joseph W. Lefavour was appointed,
and accepted by the court.
On motion of Miss Loring, it was
Voted That the action of the President in signing on behalf of the board the application of Mrs.
Joseph W. Leftover for appointment as trustee under the will of her late husband Mr. Joseph
W. Lefavour, in place of Mr. Benjamin W. Russell resigned, and that she be not required to
furnish sureties upon her official bond as such Trustee, be accepted and adopted.
Mr. Woodberry presented the report of the committee on circulation with a supplementary
list of books to be recommended also of Magazines to be subscribed for for the year 1899 both of
which matters were accepted and adopted.
On motion of Miss Loring, it was
Voted That we subscribe for two (2) copies of the Review of Reviews and one of the Nation.
A fourth recommendation was added by the committee on circulation (see para. 6) that the
following notice be printed and posted in the Library reading room and that the Secy. be authorized
to attend to the same.
Form of Notice
"Any person who wished to recommend the purchase of a book for the Library must file, in
his or her own handwriting, a form to be furnished by the Librarian.
The applicant must give the title of the book, name of the author and must sign with his or
her own name.
No other application will be considered.
A communication was read by the Secretary fxom Mrs. Abbie W. H. Webbet secretary of the
Beverly Public School Art League (letter on file) asking that the Trustees purchase certain pictures
to illustrate work in the Art Department in the Public Schools of Beverly.
After consideration by the Trustees of the above matter it was not deemed to be within the
province of the Board, consequently inexpedient to comply, and the Seey. was requested to so inform
Mrs. Webbet of their action.
On motion of Miss Sohier, it was Voted That a sum of money not to exceed Thirty dollars
($30.00) be appropriated and expended in the purchase of certain books on education.
It was Voted to extend Miss Jennie Dodge's leave of absence till Dec. 31st 1898.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
