1898-12-02 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 02/12/1898 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: William R. Driver, Charles L. Dodge, Katharine P. Loring, Elizabeth P. Sottier, and Joseph D. Tuck Board members absent: Allen H. Bennett, Rev. Benjamin R. Bulkeley, Edward L. Giddings, and George E. Woodberry Others present: Recorder: Charles L. Dodge Beverly February 12th 1898 The regular monthly meeting of the Trustees was held on the above date, instead of the first Saturday as usual by reason of a delay in the re-appointment of three Trustees whose terms of office had expired. Present Messrs. Driver, Dodge, Tuck, Miss Loring and Miss Sohier. The records of the previous meeting were read and approved. A communication was read from the City Clerk stating that at a meeting of the Board of Aldermen held on the 2d of Feb. the Mayor had appointed to serve for the term of three years fi'om Jan. 31, 1898. William R. Driver George E. Woodberry a vacancy still existing. On motion of Miss Sohier, it was Voted That we proceed to the organization of the Board. The organization was then perfected by the choice of the following. William R. Driver, Chairman Charles L. Dodge, Secretary For Librarian Miss Martha P. Smith For assistant at the Main Library Miss Jennie P. Dodge For assistant at the Farms Branch Sylvia Bennett A committee of 3 on finance William R. Driver Edward L. Giddings Allen H. Bennett A committee of 3 on rooms and administration Charles L. Dodge Miss Katharine P. Loring a vacancy existing Benjamin R. Bulkeley a committee of 3 on the Branches Miss E. P. Sohier Miss K. P. Loring and Allen H. Bennett On motion of Miss Loring, it was Voted That the compensation of the Librarian and assistants be the same as established in August 1897.
