1897-07-08 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 08/07/1897 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: William R. Driver, Joseph S. Baker, Charles L. Dodge, Edward L. Giddings, Katharine P. Loring, Elizabeth P. Sohier, Joseph D. Tuck, and George E. Woodberry Board members absent: Allen H. Bennett Others present: Recorder: Charles L. Dodge Beverly Aug. 7th 1897 The Trustees held their regular meeting on the above date. Present Messrs. Driver, Tuck, Woodberry, Giddings, Dodge, Baker and Miss Loring and Miss Sohier The president in the chair. The records of the last meeting were read an approved. The committee on re-cataloguing reported that the (2000) Fiction Catalogue was now completed and read for distribution, the price being fixed at five cents per copy. Also that two hundred volumes of Fiction in French had been purchased as per voted at the last meeting, July 3 d. The finance committee to whom was referred the question of compensation of Librarian and assistant and more hours for opening made the following report, viz. "The committee on finance to show was referred the question of salaries and Library hours, submit the following report. Salaries Librarian $525.00 Assistant $325.00 Beverly Farms $200.00 Library hours. For central, open daily from 2 to 9 o'clock P.M. Sundays and legal holidays excepted. Beverly Farms branch open from 2 to 5:30 and 7 o'clock to 9 P.M. On motion of Mr. Giddings, it was Voted That the report of the committee be accepted and adopted. On motion of Mr Giddings, it was Voted That the increase in compensation take effect from Aug. 1't 1897. And that the increased hours of opening begin on Aug. 16a' inst. On motion of Mr. Giddings, it was Voted That the committee on rooms and administration be authorized to have the ceiling whitened and walls of the reading and distribution rooms painted.
