Beverly Feb. 6th 1897
The regular monthly meeting of the Trustees occurred this Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock.
Present Messrs. Tuck, Giddings, Driver, Baker and Dodge.
The records of the last meeting were read and approved.
The terms of Misses Sohler and Loring and Mr. Bennett having expired and been re-
appointed, a reorganization of the board became necessary.
On motion of Mr. Giddings, it was
Voted That we proceed to organize and to ballot for president.
Mr. Joseph D. Tuck was unanimously chosen but positively declined; and it was with feeling
of deep regret aeter much opposition from the members present that we finally accepted his
declination. Mr. Tuck has served faithfully and long for many years and has contributed much towards
the success of the Library.
On motion of Mr. Giddings, it was
Voted That we proceed to ballot for president and Wm. R. Driver was unanimously elected.
On motion of Mr. Baker, it was
Voted That we proceed to ballot for Secretary, and Charles L. Dodge was elected.
On motion of Mr. Giddings, it was
Voted That we proceed to ballot for Librarian, and assistant to the main library also the librarian at
the Farms branch, and Miss Martha P. Smith was unanimously elected together with Miss
Jennie P. Dodge, and Miss Sylvia Bennett at the Farms.
On motion of Mr. Giddings it was
Voted The matter of compensation was laid over to subsequent meeting.
A finance committee of three was elected, consisting of
Edward L. Giddings
Allen H. Bennett
Joseph D. Tuck
A committee of three was elected who should have charge of the branches viz.
Miss Elizabeth P. Sohier
Miss Katharine P. Loring
Mr. Allen H. Bennett
A committee of three was elected on rooms and administration, viz.
Charles L. Dodge
John S. Baker
Miss Katharine P. Loring
This completed the organization.
On motion of Mr. Giddings, it was
Voted That the subject of increasing the facilities of the reading room be left with the room
committee with full power to act.
On motion of Mr. Giddings, it was
Voted That the librarian be authorized to obtain the work 'The History of Banldng."
On motion of Mr. Baker, it was
Voted That the magazine on Engineering be added to the list.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
