1913-10-25 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 10/25/1913 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: William R. Driver, Charles L. Dodge, Katharine P. Loring, Elizabeth P. Sohier, Louis D. Webber, and George E. Woodberry Board members absent: Allen H. Bennett, Rev. Benjamin R. Bulkeley, and Joseph C. Kilham Others present: Recorder: Charles L. Dodge Beverly Oct. 25th 1913 The regular meeting of the Trustees was held this afternoon at 3:30 P.M. Present Misses Loring & Sohier, Messrs. Driver, Woodberry, Webber and Dodge. The record of the last meeting was read and approved. Voted To accept the report of the committee on circulation with reference to 47 titles present, also to the following gifts. From the Chamber of Commerce of San Diego, California, on its climate and weather. Works of the Rev. John C. Kimball 2 vols. The Romance of Evolution and its Relation to Religion, and the Ethical Aspects of Evolution. Also the History of Religious Feelings, a Question of Miracles in the Soul. With the compliments of the Publishers. G.P. Putnam, New York City. A letter of thanks from Mrs. J. G. Walker of Hamilton Mass. For the privilege of borrowing books form the Bev. Pub. Library. Read and placed on file. Voted That the Trustees accept with thanks the offer of an American Flag from the Ladies of the John H. Chipman Relief Corps. Referred to the committee on administration. Voted To accept the report of the Finance Committee and adopt their recommendations with reference to the maintenance of the Library for 1914. The changes in the salaries to take effect Jan. 1st 1914. On file. Voted To accept the recommendations of committee on circulation with reference to adding the following to the lists of Papers. viz. The Christian Science Monitor The Boston Daily Globe The New York World Voted That the front steps be boarded over during the winter months. Referred to Mr. Weber of the finance committee. The janitor having asked to be relieved from duty on certain evenings each week. It was voted to refer the subject to Mr. Webber of the finance committee. It was voted That the thanks of this Board be extended to William Endicott Esq. of Boston for the generous gift of a large number of valuable Books. This vote was disposed of at the meeting held Sep 27th. Adjourned Charles L. Dodge Secretary
