Giddings was elected a member of the Board of Trustees of the Beverly Public Library March 14th, 1870, and served hereon continuously from that time. Throughout this long period of thirty three years, he gave close attention to the interests of the library, watched over and fostered its slow growth, suggested and favored improvements in its organization, administration and public utility as these became practicable, and had expressed a careful regard for the character of its books and the prudent expenditure of its funds.
