1901-09-02 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 02/09/1901 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: William R. Driver, Rev. Benjamin R. Bulkeley, Charles L. Dodge, Joseph C. Kilham, Katharine P. Lofing, Elizabeth P. Sohier, and George E. Woodberry Board members absent: Allen H. Bennett, and Edward L. Giddings Others present: Recorder: Charles L. Dodge Beverly Feb. 9th 1901 The Trustees met on the above date; the regular meeting having been postponed pending the confirmation of three trustees whose terms of office had expired. The meeting was called to order by the chairman; the Secretary then read a communication from the City Clerk (now on file) stating that on Jan. 3 1st, 1901 [minutes book says 1900] the Board of Aldermen confirmed the appointments of the Mayor to fill the vacancies existing in the Board of Trustees, and that Messrs. Benjamin R. Bulkeley William R. Driver George E. Woodberry were appointed for threes years to date from Jan. 31 st 1901. [minutes book says 1900] The Board being complete (the following being present, Messrs. Driver, Woodberry, Bulkeley, Kilham, Dodge & Misses Loring and Sohier) then proceeded to an organization as follows: For Chairman William R. Driver For Secretary Charles L. Dodge The records of the last meeting were read, amended and approved. Voted That the chairman appoint the several committees for the ensuing year, viz. Finance Committee Edward L. Giddings Allen H. Bennett Joseph C. Kilham Rooms and Administration Charles L. Dodge Katharine P. Loring Joseph C. Kilham Circulation George E. Woodberry Benjamin R. Bulkeley Kathafine P. Loring Branches Elizabeth P. Sohier Katharine P. Lofing Allen H. Bennett Voted That the report of the committee on circulation with reference to 27 titles read and present with 20 not present including two duplicate, be accepted and adopted. Voted That the same list of magazines as that of 1900 be adopted with the addition of"The Wo~ds Work" & "Publishers Weekly." Voted That $10.00 be appropriated from the Wheelright fund for purchase of books. Referred to Miss Loftrig. Voted On recommendation of the committee on circulation to purchase the "Army and Navy list." Voted That the committee on circulation have authority to purchase duplicates of books at their discretion. Being no further business the meeting was adjourned. Charles L. Dodge Secretary
