1958-06-18City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 06/18/1958 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Saul J. Cagan, Dorothy Cook, Bruce Lancaster, Frederick Pierce, and Carolyn Standley Board members absent: Russell P. Brown, Thomas J. Casey, and Thomas J. Toomey Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Wednesday, June 18, 1958 The regular meeting was changed to 7 o'clock because of the reception held at 8 for Miss Marion Crafts who retires after 30 years service. Also changed was the evening because of the Noah Shore Trustees Meeting held at Wakefield. Mrs. Conrad presided with Miss Standley, Mrs. Cook, Mr. Lancaster, Mr. Pierce and Mr. Cagan in attendance. The records of the previous meeting were read and approved. The report of the Finance Committee was presented giving a summary of expenditures to date. This was approved. The report of the Building Commission was read by Miss Standley. She gave a brief review of the work completed. All felt that the $28,000 had gone a long way and was spent very wisely. Mrs. Conrad explained that Mr. Cagan thought it unwise to present, at this time, the salary survey to the City Government as it needed more study. Present in the Fall. Mrs. Conrad presented a plan for desk improvement which might be considered and she will bring in estimates.. The card cabinet was also discussed. Voted: to have hay cut on Winter St. lot. A report of the Circulation Comm. was read and placed on file as was the Librarian' s report. Because of the Janitor Mr. Clark's accident (fractured skull from a fall on Cabot St.) It was voted to request the Mayor to give permission to have a temporary janitor during Mr. Clark's sickness and appoint Mr. Toomey to attend details. Mrs. Conrad explained about a legacy of $500 from Alfred Moffitt for the Beverly Farms Branch. Short discussion as to spending it for a specific purpose possibility of using for planting. On Mrs. Symonds request of two weeks vacation without pay it was voted to give her one week without pay as she had only worked 6 months and it would establish a precedent. Voted: to omit the July and August meetings. To replace the position of Miss Crafts it was left until Sept. Adjourned 8:15 Marion A. Brown, Clerk An informal reception was held in the Art room for Miss Crafts with the Trustees, Staff, Friends and pages. Refreshments were enjoyed and a gift of cultured pearls were presented to her.
