The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library on the above date at
7:30. In the absence of the Chairman Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Cook presided. All were present except Mr.
Brown and Mr. Cagan.
The records of January 23 were approved as read, as was the report of the Finance
Committee giving expenditures to date because as yet nothing definite was known about the budget
for this year.
Mr. Toomey reported for the Administration Committee reading the financial statement to
date for the Building Commission and explained in detail of the work completed to date: - roof, bricks
in front of Building right of door, water proofing to be finished when warmer weather comes, one
small leak in ceiling of Art Room due to louvers on roof opening because of heavy snow, four covers
to be put on louvers during Winter and uncovered in summer, plaster work, linoleum on this floor,
City painters to begin painting Mon. To do - new light over newspapers and directories cases and it
was explained that the electrical board although old was in good condition. Mr. Toomey also
suggested that a letter be sent to the Mayor and Aldermen inviting them to view all the improvements
to inform them just where all the money has gone. It was voted to accept Mr. Toomey's excellent
detailed report.
The report of the Circulation Committee was accepted as read as was the report of the
Librarian giving the activities of the month.
Mr. Casey explained that an Act of Legislation was necessary for a Library Trustee to sit in
on a meeting of Trust Fund Commissioners. After discussion it was left for Mr. Casey and Mr. Cagan
to seek more information.,
A discussion of National Library Week took place & suggestions made that organization
members should be informed and the Citizens Committee should be more active.
It was explained that a petition by the City of Beverly to clear a title to land near Beverly
Farms Cemetery might be of interest to Trustees. In 1880 John I. Baker sold to Beverly a parcel of
land to be used for burial purposes. A certain part was used but rest was unsuitable and never used.
To clear the title all persons must be notified and the Library Trustees along with 20 others were
included. A motion was made and so voted that the Trustees sign a waiver of notice on John I. Baker
property in Beverly Farms and accept service.
A discussion of evaluations and salary figures was held and it was left to be brought up a t the
next meeting as Mr. Cagan had made a study of same.
Voted to adjourn at 9 P.M.
