A meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library on Thursday, October 31st, at 4
P.M.
There were present of the Board, Miss Loring, Mr. Pond and Mr. Delaney.
Since this number does not constitute a quorum, all action was taken subject to ratification
at the next regular meeting of the Board.
The records of the meeting of September 26 were read and approved.
The Secretary, in the absence of Mr. Small, presented the October statement of the Finance
Committee.
Voted: to accept the same.
The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 57 titles and the receipt of 21
gifts.
It was voted that this report be accepted and that the thanks of the Trustees be extended for
the gifts received.
The report of the librarian was read, accepted, and paced on file.
After informal discussions it was voted: To rescind the vote taken on June 30th, 1927, that the
vacation periods be assigned by choice beginning with the senior employees, and substitute in its place
the regulation that vacation periods be assigned in order of length of service of assistants, but in
rotation, so that the senior in service shall have first choice in 1930, the second in seniority of service,
first choice in 193 1, and so forth, in rotation.
It was also voted that the schedule of vacation be prepared by June 1st of each year.
Three bids were received for the magazine list for 1930, and it was voted to award the
contract to the F. W. Faxon Company of Boston, at 299.90 for the list for the Main Library and the
Farms Branch, plus 26.50 for the list for Ryal Side.
The Committee on Circulation submitted the list of newspapers for 1930, and it was voted
to renew the 1929 list, leaving out the Boston News Bureau which had been little used, and including
one paper for Ryal Side, if that seemed desirable after consultation with Mr. Keenan. Voted: That the annual report of the Trustees be prepared by Miss Loring.
Voted: That the next regular meeting of the Board by held on Thursday, November 21st, at
4P.M.
