Place: Beverly Public Library

Board members absent:
Others present: Katharine P. Loring, Trustee and Marjorie H. Stanton, Librarian
Recorder:
The Special Committee consisting of Miss Marsters, Mr. Delaney, Mr. Porter, met with Miss
Loring and Miss Stanton at the Library on April 16th, 1926, and unanimously voted to recommend:
We approve of engaging competent librarians wherever they may come from. We furthermore
recommend training our own Assistants, giving them opportunities to take University Courses to
further their education. We also recommend amending Section 6 of the Finance Committee' s report
accepted by the Trustees on December 27, 1924, which now reads "To recommend a general policy
of establishing the sum of $50 as the increase to be made per year in the trained group and $25 a year
in the group of untrained workers."
We would suggest that this be amended to read: "Additional increases shall be granted for
credits won by University Courses, or by points, determined by an examination held by the Librarian
and a Committee of the Trustees."
The work of the Library has become so complicated, we further recommend that a new
position be established - that of a Cataloger to be employed at a minimum salary of $1,050 per year.
We suggest that Miss Marion Allen is competent to fill this position.
This Committee further expresses their belief that Miss Dorothy Prince, by points won at
Boston University and because of efficient service, should be increased $125, making a total salary
of $900 a year.
We also recommend that the salary of Miss Florence Taylor, if she successfully passes her
examination, be increased September 1st tO $750.
We further recommend that Miss Helen Aylward be employed as a Assistant, commencing
July 1st, 1926, at a salary of $750.
Respectfully submitted,
Helen L. Marsters, Chairman
Fred H. Porter
Thomas F. Delaney
