P.M.
The regular meeting of the Board was held at the Library on Thursday, February 24, at 7:30
Those present were Messrs. Delaney, Birmingham, Boyden and Foster.
The records of the January meeting were read and approved.
Since the budget for the year had not yet been approved, no detailed report could be given
by the Finance Committee beyond the statement that expenditures to date had been normal.
Mr. Delaney reported that owing to the illness of Mr. Moses, it now became necessary to
apply to the Civil Service for permission to continue to use Oscar S. Grimes as temporary custodian,
provided no eligible list from which to draw had been established.
Miss Stanton was therefore authorized to write the Civil Service Commission that of the two
names previously submitted one man was not interested and the other was thought to be unsuited for
the library position; and to request that if no other names were available Mr. Grimes might be
employed until such time as an examination had been held and an eligible list established.
After informal discussion it was voted to allow the Boy Scouts to continue to use the hall at
the Farms Branch, provided they could hold their meeting on some other evening than Monday, when
the janitor wished to be free to attend the Legion meeting; and to inform Mr. Caron that they were
withdrawing their permission for the use of the hall on Saturday afternoons, for the showing of
Moving Pictures, because it no longer seemed wise to keep the building open during that time. This
to become effective on March 1st.
Voted: that Miss Lawlor, who is holding an Education Class at the Farms once a week, be
asked to make payment for the use of the hall during the months of January and February, on order
to bring her account up to date.
The Circulation Committee recommended the purchase of 327 books, 181 of which were
Children' books. This was approved.
The Librarian's report was read and placed on file.
After discussion of the need for more books, it was voted to use the dog tax this year for the
purchase of books, and to spend the income from Trust Funds also, with a few exceptions, for the
same purpose.
Voted: to adjourn
