Birmingham, W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., Louisa V. Conrad, Lawrence E. Foster, William A. Rowe, and Robert O. Small Board members absent: Thomas J. Casey, and B. Frederick Yoffa Others present: Recorder: Marjorie H. Stanton September 29, 1949 The regular meeting of the Board was held on Thursday, September 29, at 7:30, with all members present except Messrs. Casey and Yoffa. The records of the meeting of June 30 were read and approved. The report of the Finance Committee, giving details of all expenditures and balances was then presented and approved. The Administration Committee reported that it had been necessary, during the summer, to expend $167.00 for repairs to the heating plant, and that it had cost nearly $60.00 to replace glass in the back door and in a number of windows which had been broken by rocks which were thrown through them from outside. This committee also reported that about 30% of the repair work at the Farms Branch had been completed and that the work was proceeding satisfactorily. Voted: that Miss Stanton make a report to the Chief of Police, in writing, in addition to the verbal report already ,made. An application had been received, from the , through Alderman Chase, for the use of the hall at the Main Library in the last Wednesday of each month, from 8 to 10 P.M. Voted: that this request be granted, at a charge of $5.00 for each evening, and that the organization make arrangements about paying the janitor for his extra time. An application had also been received, from Walter Caron, for the use of the Farms Branch Hall for Boy Scout Troop meetings. The Trustees voted, unanimously, that it would be most unwise to grant this request because of repairs being made to the roof there. Miss Stanton was asked to notify Mr. Caron of this decision. The Circulation Committee reported that 339 titles had been purchased during the summer months, and that many gifts had been received, including a subscription to the Italian newspaper La Notizia, for the balance of the year. The report of the Librarian, giving details of the activities during the summer months, especially in the Children's Department, was presented and placed on file. Mr. Delaney then reported that $12,000 had been left to the Public Library under the will of Mrs. Bessie Baker, the income to be expended for books of history. Voted: to adjourn Adjourned Marjorie H.
