March 31, 1949
The regular meeting of the Board was held on Thursday, March 31, at 7:30 P.M., with Mr.
Delaney, Mrs. Conrad, & Messrs. Foster, Rowe, and Small in attendance.
Since the newly appointed Trustees had duly qualified Mr. Delaney moved at once to the
organization of the Board. By ballot, Mr. Delaney was unanimously re-elected Chairman, Mrs.
Conrad Secretary, and Miss Stanton Clerk. It was voted that Mr. Delaney, as Chairman, appoint the
Committees for 1949.
The report of the regular meeting of February 24 and that of the joint meeting of the Trustees
and the City Government, at the Farms Branch, on March 20, were read and approved.
The report of the Finance Committee, presenting the budget for 1949, as granted by the City
Government, was read in detail and it was voted that some means must be found to convince the City
Government that the Library could not function adequately without additional money. It was decided
to ask for a Supplementary Budget sufficient to bring the appropriation up to the amount first
requested.
The Administration Committee reported that nothing beyond a few small routine repairs had
been undertaken this year.
The report of the Librarian was read and placed on file.
(Voted)
The Committee on Circulation reported the purchase of 431 titles, 235 of which were for the
Children's Department. This was approved.
The meeting then adjourned
