1950-03-30City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 03/30/1950 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Thomas F. Delaney, Louisa V. Conrad, Lawrence E. Foster, William A. Rowe, and Robert O. Small Board members absent: John C. Birmingham, W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., Thomas J. Casey, and B. Frederick Yoffa Others present: Recorder: Marjorie H. Stanton March 30, 1950 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Thursday, March 30 at 7:30 P.M., with Mr. Delaney, Mrs. Conrad, and Messrs. Foster, Rowe, and Small in attendance. The Secretary' s records of the meeting of January 26 were read and approved. The report of the Finance Committee giving a summary of expenditures to date and presenting the budget for 1950, as approved by the City Government, was then discussed; and it was voted that since the Mayor had cut the maintenance appropriation by $850.00 below what was granted last year, Miss Stanton and Mr. Delaney should confer with the Mayor about a supplementary Budget. The Circulation Committee recommended the purchase of 329 titles and the acceptance of two gifts. This was approved. The report of the Librarian, giving details of circulation and registration for the three months of 1950 was then presented. A discussion of conditions at Centerville and at Ryal Side then followed, and since the circulation at the Centerville School Station is very small during the summer months, it seemed wise to decide to close it during the weeks of school vacation. Conditions at Ryal Side are very unsatisfactory both as to circulation of books and to conditions in general, and if a better place could be found it would be advisable to move. A letter was received from Mrs. Miles, Secretary of the Beverly Farms Improvement Society, expressing that Society' s pleasure at the repairs at the Farms Library and its appreciation at being allowed to hold meetings there. Miss Stanton reported that the Noah Shore Library Group would like to hold it's June meeting at Beverly - either at the Main Library or the Farms Branch. The Trustees felt that it would be a good plan to meet at the Farms, since the building was in such excellent condition and the Group had never been there, and Miss Stanton was asked to inquire about luncheon provisions. Voted: to adjourn Adjourned Marjorie H. Stanton Clerk
